How to Reply to an Invitation: Accepting and Declining Message Examples

If an invitation says RSVP (LCV in Turkish), the host needs to know whether you will attend so they can plan food, tables and seating. Here is how to reply politely.

When to reply

Reply before the reply-by date; if there is none, reply as soon as possible, ideally within a week. If you are undecided, say so and tell the host when you will confirm.

Accepting

• "Thank you so much for the invitation. We will be delighted to join you; there will be two of us."
• "We received your lovely invitation and will be there. Congratulations in advance!"

Declining

• "Thank you for the invitation. Unfortunately we will be out of town that day, but we wish you every happiness."
• "We would have loved to be there but cannot attend. Our best wishes are with you."

Replying to an RSVP link
